From a series of 40 ancestral mandalas created between 2020-2022. This ancestral mandala weaves the roots of my first creative rebirth, with silk painting, in an experiment in discovering how the same freehand batik process with textiles could translate into paper. Involving heat, fluidity, and aromatics.
Beeswax, archival silk dye, frankincense, rosewater on acid free arches paper
Note: as this geometry was realized entirely freehand with no predetermined image, using only a compass and straight-edge, a tiny, pin-size hole from the compass marks the center of the mandala. I like to think of it as the aperture through which the light of the soul emanates through.
