The original artwork reproduced as Bear in the first edition of E M E R G E N C E Oracle. Revisited and transformed in 2026, the original has continued evolving beyond the version preserved in the published deck and now includes iconography of the tale of the Crescent Moon Bear, as told by Clarissa Pinkola Estés in Women Who Run with the Wolves on The Boundaries of Rage and Forgiveness.
Additionally, the constellations of Aries, Taurus, and the Pleiades adorn a velvety night sky with Venus conjuncting the waning crescent Moon. Shooting stars, hand gilded in silver, illuminate and bring wonder.
River Bear’s original emergence was inspired by multiple Bear encounters and land visitations in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Mount Shasta during self-directed artist residencies in Spring and Summer 2022.
